The 5th of November is a significant date in the history of London. On this day in 1605, Guy Fawkes, one of a group of Catholic conspirators was folied in his attempts to blow up the Houses of Parliament and assassinate the Monarch, King James I.

People up and down the country gather on the night of the 5th to mark the occasion by holding bonfires and fireworks displays. On these bonfires, effigies of Fawkes or ‘Guys’ as they are known are burnt.
